Our roots in Automotive

     Son of a Mechanic LLC is a third generation small business auto repair shop. Rudy's great grandfather had a machinist shop in Croatia. His grandfather Rudy Sr. came to the USA from Croatia in 1960. With a goal to build a life for his family who waited for him in Croatia. During this time he worked in the auto industry as a mechanic. He was able to buy a house, earn his citizenship, brought his wife and two children to the USA in 1963. Once coming to the USA, Grandpa Rudy and Grandma Vilma set out to make their dreams a reality. In 1970 they built and opened an auto repair shop, Rudy’s Garage. Right in their own backyard, much like you see with Son of a Mechanic LLC. They initially built the first part of the shop behind their house but with the success of the business they decided to tear down their home to expand the shop. Which is how it stands today. In 1981 Grandpa Rudy fell ill and was unable to run the shop leaving it in the hands of his son Rudy Jr. Since 1981 Rudy Jr. has run Rudy’s Garage. Rudy's garage is still up and running in Costa Mesa, CA. The owner of Son of a Mechanic LLC, Rudy III, worked with his father every summer since the age of 12. He then proceeded to work with his father throughout his career while also venturing out to learn all aspects of the automotive industry. Rudy III worked at a variety of automotive businesses such as Jiffy lube, Firestone, Mitsubishi and helped run his father's shop Rudy’s garage. Taking bits and pieces as he learned and grew at each place. Rudy found himself at the top of the automotive industry when he landed a job with the LAPD as a Fleet Supervisor. Rudy loved taking the experience from all walks of the industry into being a supervisor and did so for 5 years. Rudy and his family decided Colorado was a better fit for their lifestyle. In moving to Colorado Rudy, realized he had accomplished and excelled at all aspects of the industry but one, having his own shop. From helping run his father's shop to running a police fleet of hundreds of vehicles, Rudy knew it was the next step. It is in his DNA.
